BBC apologises for John Inverdale’s gaffe over Marion Bartoli

BBC apologises for John Inverdale's gaffe over Marion Bartoli | Sport | The Observer.

He’s a real prince among men this John Inverdale dude. His reaction to Bartoli’s win at Wimbledon:

Do you think Bartoli’s dad told her when she was little: ‘You’re never going to be a looker, you’ll never be a Sharapova, so you have to be scrappy and fight’?”

I feel a huge rant coming on about rampant misogyny, about disrespect, about reducing women’s value, no matter what they do, to whether or not you want to fuck them, about violence, about abuse.

But for now, I’ll just say, poor Marion Bartoli. She’s apparently not pretty enough to tempt the discerning eye of an ordinary middle-aged bloke like journalist John Inverdale, so she’s had to settle for second-best. A win at one of her sport’s most prestigious events, on top of a long-lasting, successful, and highly lucrative career as a professional athlete. Tough lines…

People who participate in world class tournaments are all achievers. The winners are bigger achievers. Journalist John Inverdale is a live presenter. He has the gift of gab. This time while reporting the Wimbeldon he put both of his feet in his mouth. BBC by just apologising cannot get away with this sacrilege committed by him. His acid comments are definitely hurtful.I wonder how hurt would Bartoli’s father be?
John Inverdale should be sacked. Journalist should contribute to society by positive and critical analysis on the players and game in general. They should not give stupid and unwanted comments.
