It’s my birthday next weekend, and Petra is already working hard on the preparations. She and Travis went shopping yesterday and came home with a couple of interesting packages, a card, and some fancy ribbons. They wrapped everything this morning to reduce the temptation for both me and Petra. It’ll be hard for her to last a week without sharing the wonderful surprises. Last year, she told everyone immediately what was in their birthday and Christmas parcels, but this year, she’s learning the art of self-restraint.
Petra’s also devised a full roster of party games. There’s to be musical statues and/or musical chairs, pass the parcel, pin the tail on the donkey, and the Snakes and Ladders board game, and Snap.
We’ll be baking a chocolate cake and eating roast chicken and potatoes, peas, and carrots. Roasting a chicken means a party in Petra’s world and it’s her favourite meal.
Somehow in amongst all that Petra and I will also be fitting in a visit to the afternoon performance of Angelina Ballerina at the St. James Theatre.
Birthdays are much more fun with a preschooler in attendance!
