This has some fascinating numbers about just how windy Wellington really is. Answer: it’s probably the windiest city in the world.

And there’s a link to some NIWA data breaking the city into wind zones. We live in a zone two area – the second lowest – and it’s often windy enough here to blow rubbish bins away, break small branches off the surrounding trees, and keep us awake at night. Living in a place zoned four or five must be an interesting experience.
