Petra and I had only just moved to Wellington to join Travis and we were learning our way around the centre of town. Here’s a picture of Petra playing tourist on the cool bridge that joins Civic Square to the waterfront.
We liked it then, and we still like it now. We were down there today looking at the local version of the global Occupy protests. The protesters are so young, so organised, so earnest. They’re carefully cleaning up after themselves, they’re lugging food, they’re designing beautifully-lettered signs, they’re searching for meanings outside those to be found on the telly. I was glad to see them. I don’t think they’ll achieve anything explicit but it still makes me hopeful to see people protesting against capitalism as it is currently practiced.
