So the entire eastern seaboard of the US shut down for Hurricane Irene. And, it’s certainly pretty full-on in some places with deaths, flooding, and huge storm surges.
However, looking at the scale of the preparations in New York as depicted on CNN International, and reading the projected wind strengths and rain quantities, I couldn’t help but think they were over-reacting. Here in Wellington, we have wind gusts that strong most days.
Turns out I wasn’t alone in thinking that.
Kiwi journalist Dave Worsley was out on the streets of Manhattan when he told dompost.co.nz this morning the storm was reminiscent of Wellington on a wintery day.
“When you think about a typical Wellington weekend in the winter, the wind and rain, that’s what it was here.”
