Upsets

So Roger Federer got beat. Federer was two sets up but managed to lose to Jo Wilfried Tsonga who served beautifully and just muscled Federer off the court. It was an impressive effort. And Tsonga was so excited when he won, jumping up and down and laughing like a little kid.

Jo Wilfried Tsonga - "I Won!"

I wonder if it’s the end of the Federer era, if he’ll ever win another slam, how long he’ll continue to play, when he’ll admit that he’s no longer the most incredible player in the world. He’s 30 this year, an old man in tennis terms, and though he’s still raging against the dying of the light, his time is drawing to a close. Sport is brutal that way – it’s hard to ease gracefully away – you get dropped if you play a team sport, or the other players start beating you and you’re forced to come to terms with time and mortality much more quickly than most.
