Fleet of $200,000 BMW Cars Bought for Ministerial Use

Editorial: Time for ministers to walk the talk | Stuff.co.nz.

So on the one hand, we have the Prime Minister saying that people using food banks indicates not poverty but stupidity (‘poor choices’).

And on the other hand we have the government choosing to replace its current ministerial cars, which are only three years old, with a new fleet of hugely expensive and unnecessarily high-end cars.

The National government had an opportunity to overturn the decision of the previous (Labour) government and opt for cheaper cars or a longer replacement cycle, but chose to go for the luxury.  That decision smacks very strongly of ‘let them eat cake,’ and might prove embarrassing in an election year.
