It’s official, our house is for sale. It’s listed on TradeMe. The real estate agents trooped through on Wednesday, our landlords spent most of the day yesterday hacking back the jungle that is our backyard, the first prospective buyers came by yesterday afternoon, and the first open home is this afternoon.
We’ve done our bit. We’ve vacuumed, put away the piles of clutter that seem to collect up in corners when Petra and I are at home for more than a couple of hours, and cleaned up the kitchen. Since it’s not my house, I don’t have to polish it to the pitch of unsustainable and uncomfortable perfection that I did in Dunedin. But I feel obligated to have it at least minimally tidy. And, the extra housework has its benefits – I like having a tidy, clutter-free house and it happens so rarely once you have children (in my experience anyway), that it’s nice to have a reason to get organised.
