Wellington Finds

Lyall Bay and the Maranui Cafe which is upstairs in the Surf Lifesaving Building. Yummy food and a fabulous view.
Unity Books – an independent bookshop downtown on Willis Street. They feature books from small presses and lots of local authors. A nice change from the chain stores.
The Shoe Clinic – a hole in the wall shop dedicated to kitting out runners and walkers. Just across from Unity Books.
The main branch of the Public Library. It’s a fabulous place. There’s a cafe. Story time happens three times a week. The children’s area comes complete with puzzles, toys, and comfy chairs so you can hang out and read to your kids. And the book collections are good and comprehensive. I think we’ll be there a lot.

Our recent discoveries, along with the much improved weather, mean that I feel less tragic and trapped about being here. It’s wonderful the difference a little sun and warmth makes to my state of mind. Thank god we moved here in late spring and have summer to look forward to. If I’m lucky, I’ll have settled into some kind of Wellington routine before the winter.
