Gertrude Stein. Not sure why. Because she was as eccentric as she wanted to be. Because she made an unconventional life of her own in Paris. Because she bought and appreciated avant-garde art. Because of her towering ego. Because she looked like a Roman Emperor. Because of The Autobiography of Alice Toklas and Tender Buttons and the love poems for Alice Toklas. Because, even though I mostly have no idea what she's on about, her non sequiters sound so lovely. Because she kept right on writing even when no one cared. Because I always want to sit down and write myself after I read any of her work.
